New for the summer of 2019, Catholic Basketball Camp is a progressive initative between the Diocese of Joliet and Archidiocese of Chicago. By the combined efforts of each Diocese's Vocations Offices, Catholic Basketball Camp is a joint effort to reach kids from the Greater Chicagoland Area. The camp will be held in the O'Hare Airport neighborhood - centrally located to accomodate Chicago as well as the Western and Northern suburbs.
Coach Kevin Dix: Coach Dix is the Volunteer Assistant Basketball Coach at Lewis University.
Coach Jackie Budmayr: My name is Jackie Budmayr. I have had the privilege of coaching basketball for the past 30 years. My husband, Rick, and I are the proud parents of five children. Four boys and one girl (an awesome sonin-law and daughter-in-law) and best of all our newest addition, our beautiful one-year-old granddaughter.
My most recent coaching experience has been at Marian Central Catholic High School for thirteen years (the last five years as the Varsity Head Coach and in charge of the woman's program). During this time, I have not only had the joy of working with young female athletes but also with our youth feeder teams in summer camps. It has always been my mission to incorporate Faith and Spirituality into my program to include regular masses in the school chapel, develop a strong prayer life and several community service projects throughout the year.
I retired from coaching four years ago. When I was approached with the opportunity to assist in the Catholic Sports Camp, I was extremely excited as its mission mirrored by own. I believe our youth need to understand and always know that their ability to participate and compete in Athletics is a Gift from God; a very special Gift that is never to be taken for granted or abused. Therefore, they should always play for the greater glory of God; which is what my husband and I have tried to instill in our children who were and are still heavily involved in the sports world. I believe this camp is going to an amazing experience for every child that attends as well as myself.
Benote Wimp: Benote is excited to be leading the first Catholic Basketball Camp this summer! His love for basketball began in the alleys of Chicago when his friends in his neighborhood said he couldn’t or didn’t know how to play the game. He played four years of high school hoops at Quigley Seminar South. He then attended Niles College of Loyola, Chicago (College Seminary) before transferring tp and graduating from Illinois State University. After Graduation, he returned as an Assistant Coach at Quigley South. Other great coaching stops before he left teaching was at Providence New Lenox (Assistant), Andrew H.S. (Head Women’s), and finally Elgin Senior H.S. as an Assistant. He is a State Farm Agency owner in Downers Grove, a Fourth Degree Knight, and an active member of parish community.
Fr. Max Behna: Fr. Max is the Parochial Vicar of St. Michael's Parish in Wheaton, IL. He was ordained a priest in May 2018. He played basketball on the Mundelein Seminary team called the Joliet Jammers. Fr. Max loves teaching kids about Christ, especially though sports!
Fr. Mark Bernhard: Fr. Mark is the Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Aurora, IL. He was ordained a priest in May 2017. He played basketball on the Mundelein Seminary Joliet Jammers with Fr. Max. Fr. Mark leads a men's parish ministry called the Fit Shepherds, where he combines a fitness workout with teaching about the Word of God through Holy Scripture. He enjoys connecting with the youth of our diocese through Catholic Sports Camps!
Fr. Tim Monahan: My name is Fr. Timothy Monahan, and I come from an Irish Catholic family that is also full of athletes. My grandfather, father, and cousins all played football at the University of Notre Dame, where I was captain of the fencing team, a Division-I sport. In high school I played basketball and ran track, and in seminary I played soccer. I continue to remain active, because the discipline of sports teaches me a lot about being a disciple of Jesus Christ: hard work, technique, teamwork -- it all pays off in life and in faith. We're excited to have you join our team at Catholic Sports Camps. See you there!
